Frozen in the Finger Lakes: 7 Stunning Photos

Crescent Beach, Branchport, NY - Keuka Lake

Much as I’d love to do a blog post featuring hot summer days on the lakes, I want to share these really beautiful icy photographs with you! I did some quick scouring of the interwebs for frozen waterfalls and lakes, and found some that are truly stunning.

Despite the Spring-like temperature in the Finger Lakes today (don’t be fooled!), this post is a great reminder that it is–in fact–January.

The first photo was taken by yours truly a few years ago. It’s taken from crescent beach on the Branchport branch of Keuka Lake, looking south. Ok, onward:

Ice Berg on Canandaigua Lake

Freezing Fog on Canandaigua Lake on InTheFingerLakes.com

Ok, so it’s not really an ice berg. Adam Dulski from The Salty Dog Shop in Canandaigua shared this photo with me on Twitter, and schooled me on the term freezing fog: “Has to be super cold air over a “warm” body of water.”

Ovid Freezing Fog by Carrie Smalser on InTheFingerLakes.comCaptured by Carrie Photography caught this in Ovid. Carrie has tons of stunning Finger Lakes photos on her website (frozen and otherwise) as well.

I took this photo a few years ago on an around-the-lake-excursion one very cold winter day.

QUICK FAVOR:

Would you mind brainstorming with me? I'm launching a 2015 calendar - which style would you be into?

One Response to “Frozen in the Finger Lakes: 7 Stunning Photos”

  1. I know Carrie personally from Captured By Carrie Photography. She puts her absolute love of photography into each and every shot, each and every time. I’ve had the honor of being a photo shoot subject of hers with my son this past summer and I wouldn’t ever go to a “professional” studio ever again. She incorporates the natural light of nature and nature herself into her work. Amazing work. Period.
